BUILDING THE BLACK GATE

Part three: The Towers of the Teeth

© Lotrscenerybuilder 2009

Step 16:

We start with the base of the tower. Next comes the middle section; the pinnacle brings up the rear.

For the base of the tower we are going to need:
- a Carchost A element;
- two Carchost B elements;
- four Carchost C elements.
If you are going to use the templates, you will need copies for the front side as well as for the back side of each element (as for the B and C templates, there comes a 'front' & 'back' version with the downloads).

TowerTeeth23 border=

Start with gluing the 'front' templates onto 10mm MDF and cut them out. Next, glue the 'backside' templates onto the elements.

TowerTeeth24 border=

While working with 10mm MDF you might prefer to use the handsaw for sawing straight stretches.

TowerTeeth25 border=

Cutting through 1cm MDF with a fretsaw isn't much of a problem but it takes a while…

TowerTeeth26 border=

Make sure that one of the Carchost elements matches perfectly with the Witch King wall. Keep this element apart; have it marked for special use in the future.

TowerTeeth27 border=

If you are doing the drawings manually, the pictures show you how to set about it. We used a homemade template for marking the 0.7mm distances between the brick joints…

TowerTeeth28 border=

… before drawing the horizontal lines.

TowerTeeth29 border=

As for the vertical joints, variation does the trick.

TowerTeeth30 border=

Use your hobby knife to cut out the brick work (indicated by the red lines): this is done by making a V-incision into the MDF: a \ cut, followed by a / cut. Start with the horizontal lines.

TowerTeeth31 border=

Next, add the vertical joints. Make the incisions not too deep, nor too broad.
(The muzzle in the picture belongs to an old vacuum cleaner that we use for carrying off the fibres).

TowerTeeth32 border=

Use your file to cut the connecting joints between both faces.

TowerTeeth33 border=

Also, use the file to bevel the rims of both faces. Polish each element lightly with sand paper (fine grain).

TowerTeeth34 border=

Use the Carchost Ground Plan template to assemble the tower base. Start by gluing both Carchost B elements onto the Carchost A element.

TowerTeeth35 border=

Next, add all four Carchost C elements.
