BUILDING THE BLACK GATE

Part three: The Towers of the Teeth

© Lotrscenerybuilder 2009

Step 17:

To fill up the empty spaces between the Carchost fins we're going to produce thirty-two 'brickwork' tablets. Brace yourself: more sawing, cutting and filing is coming your way!

TowerTeeth36 border=

You probably don't want to do the drawing of the next elements yourself; you find all necessary templates ready to hand at the downloads.
Glue the Gothmog A, B, C and D templates onto 4mm MDF and cut them out.

TowerTeeth37 border=

Many, many minutes later…

TowerTeeth38 border=

Cut out the brickwork on each individual tablet. As for the spikes on the Gothmog A tablets, these are prone to break off during the process. Never mind this; just glue the parts together again.

TowerTeeth39 border=

To make the tablets fit between the fins, you have to bevel the rims with your hobby knife. There's no need for artistic carving here.

TowerTeeth40 border=

Study the picture carefully; it tells you all you ever wanted to know about bevelling…

TowerTeeth41 border=

Glue the Gothmog A elements into place.

TowerTeeth42 border=

If necessary, use your file to improve the fit of these elements.

TowerTeeth43 border=

Glue the Gothmog B elements into place.

TowerTeeth44 border=

Glue the Gothmog C elements into place.

TowerTeeth45 border=

Glue the Gothmog D elements into place.

TowerTeeth46 border=

Use your file to remove all irregularities from the tower base.

TowerTeeth47 border=

Also, use your file to cut the connecting joints between the faces.

TowerTeeth48 border=

While the 'spikes' of the Gothmog A elements are tapered, the adjacent Carchost fins are not. We use some filler to model the transition between both parts (a filler knife becomes handy here!). Use a cocktail stick to make the 'brickwork' imprints.

TowerTeeth49 border=

More filler might be needed for unwanted holes and chinks in the structure. When cured, polish the filler.
