Some things that should not have been forgotten, were lost...
BEHOLD!
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie...
"Now there's an eye opener, and no mistake"
It began with the forging of the Great Movies... Three were given to all beings. They brought to life the imaginative world of J.R.R. Tolkien, nicest and fairest of all mythical realms.
Ever since, hobbyists have modelled upon these images of Middle-earth as they, above all else, desire to participate in the magic of the Lord of the Rings. Now hopefully they are all of them pleased, to learn that another range of models was made...
From Bag End to Mordor, from the Shire to Mount Doom... We have forged, for all to see, a copy of Peter Jackson's representation of Middle-earth. And into this range we have poured our creativity, our talents... and our will to demonstrate that it could be done! One Site to show it all.
Welcome to this Lord of the Rings Scenery Site!
"We come to it at last - the great building of our time!"
Now you might have some reservations about going to unknown places, the World Wide Web being, after all, full of perils beyond count. So let's put you at your ease by taking a short cut to some must-sees on this site.
Now... where to begin?
We have been sawing and painting in the four Farthings of the Shire for many hundreds of hours, building miniatures of The Green Dragon, Bywater Mill and Bucklebury Ferry... quite content to ignore and be ignored by everyone who might just ask us to muck out the barn or mow the lawn...
Some of our miniatures must seem of little importance, being neither renowned as a true Gondorian monument, nor counted among the Elvish heritage... a rather unfair observation as they all possess a charm of their own...
... but where our heart truly lies is in raising rocks and ruins, casting black shadows in a bleak, barren land: soaring towers, sheer walls... plate, brick, spike and stone! And after that, it gets even better. Let us risk a little more light...
... as we pass through the Mines of Moria. Quietly now. It's a four-pages journey to the other side: a monumental gate, a Journey in the Dark... and many meetings with some very old friends in a cosy crypt... That, dear visitor, is what we made of the once-renowned home of Balin. And we call it a mine... a gold mine, filled with some of the best modelling opportunities of Middle-earth. To the Bridge of Khazad-dûm!
... where the legend comes to life...
Long have we desired to work upon these kings of old. Great power and majesty they still wear, these silent wardens of a long-vanished kingdom. We think that these statues of the Argonath best of all symbolize the grandeur of Middle-earth. That's why we've built them. These kings really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their realization... And yet, after losing all their secrets, they can still surprise you!
Yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint. But today, as on all days, it is brought home to us: it is no bad thing to celebrate a hobbyist's life! And so activity at our work shed goes on very much as it has this past decade... full of its own comings and goings, with boredom only visiting us rarely. If it comes at all...
Our cruelty, our malice...
Now, if you like half of this terrain half as much as we should want, you might wish to recreate some of the iconic monuments of Middle-earth yourself: the Khazad-dûm Stairway, or the Black Gates of Mordor. At our Scenery Workshop, you will find a series of DIY construction guides, along with all necessary templates, to help you on your way... mission... quest.
However, if less than half of our models isn't half as good as you should like... it might be none of your concern to learn what goes beyond these pictures. 'Making-of' tales and creation stories, that's all there is in The Sawdust of the Past. Keep your nose out of this stuff, and none of it will come to you!
Wherever your path lies, your business is your own. All you have to decide is where you want to go for some sight-seeing in the time that is available to you. But we do want any more visitors, well-wishers and distant relations, to give them all a royal welcome!
Just chose your destination... and enter our domain!
What say you?
"Just know that Middle-earth exists...
... and it's happening as you're watching it."
- Sir Ian McKellen -
Im Morloth hain echant
